The Jason Jessee one looks cool too. I bought the Gator one a while back. It was always cool to have the Gator board, etc. but after seeing him speak on film he seemed like a total tube.
*Apparently* you could flip your board easier and do noseslide to nosegrind variations with ease too. It's also funny how the World Industries family of companies glorified the image of pro skaters snapping their decks. Hmmm, what happens when a kid copies his idols and snaps his board? That's right, he has to go out and buy another one.
Was it all for the love (of skateboarding) or the dime? The dime.
Steve Rocco epitomised everything that was wrong with skateboarding during it's darkest and most transitional times. Yeah, in a way you could say he was a genius, but at the same time this doesn't deter from the fact that he was a cunt. Fuck him.
Yeah he was a scumbag, his brother Sal was an even bigger lowlife, but fuck it, he made things interesting for a while, gave us Love Child, Tim and Henry's Pack of Lies and it was nice to see someone stick it to Brad Dorfman and Powell.
Brad Dorfman?? i was over at the vision factory one day lifting a box of blanks in the Volks '86 (electric windows edition) and brad dorfman started laying into this employee, some sad wee twat in front of the whole shop, claiming his job was on the line over some wee mistake. then proceeds to walk out and climb into his ferrari and speeds off, grey mullet flying in the wind - BAGBALL OF THE HIGHEST CAILBRE. he also ripped off my buddy's idea for the duane peters pro shoe and made a mint (was supposed to be the Vision Eric Dressen shoe!). but at the same time the world needs these ballbags,, gets a good strong reaction from folk
The Blind ad with Jason Lee, Gonz and Rudy Johnson all holding their Powell 'Tribute' boards was fucking great.
Seeing a company say fuck you to a bigger fish was amazing, and Rocco was good at that, he changed everything, but unfortunately eventually became as bland as the giants he hated. Flameboy for fuck's sake?
But while he was good, he was great, and did a lot to give skating the kick up the arse it sorely needed and bring in a era of innovation with the likes of Jovantae. Daewon, Sanchez, Mariano, etc.
But as cool as I thought the Rocco 'Pope' was when I got it, it snapped after a week. Nice one Sal, hoped you enjoyed that lobster meal I provided for ya.
In that blind ad with the Powel take off graphics and the Letter to George Powell it is a letter written Dear George and from Gonz but it was Rocco who wrote it, if you read it you'd know the Gonz couldnt be agressive like that
Really good, gets abit boring toward the very end when theyre talking about all the newer World Industries (wet willy and flameboy etc) but yeah its still brilliant.
