a few oldies from the ballykelly scene back about 1993.
DD grindbar action
DD again wearing my hydrant t shirt, about to unleash a massive lazerflip
Me in full Pat Duffy phase. check out the tiny 40mm wheels, the deathbox triple stich jeans and the red Puma Clydes - grim (trivia - the blue rail was the rail from the 92 limavady comp)
Impossible off the curb. rig includes - airwalk velocity wellington boots, fake salman agah rugby shirt (i felt tipped on my own 'camel'). 101 natas graffiti slick, thunder t4s and spitfire buffered tablets. the deck probably broke that day as i remember being left without a board for the limavady comp 93 about a week later- lousy
Oh aye, when I skated it the curb in the 2nd pic was a pure death trap. There must have been at least a half an inch thick of pure wax on it!. Probably the slippiest curb in Irish skate history. (!!)
Great photos Shaggy, I used to love skating that bar on saturday morning trips to the big smoke on the train, the ESB just down the road was rad to. Bit of freestyle goin on in the last photo to havent seen a freestyle set up in donkeys
My parents brought them round a good while back they found them when sorting out a big bag of photos out in their old gaff in Kilcock. Classic Fletch elbows going on there tyranasurus fletchus in effect! The 2CV parked on the road dates it nicely. Don't think thats Gavin Hill he had a skinnier face. Thats your old vision board on the wall next to him though I think. Anyone hazard a guess at a year the photo was taken. Late 80s I reckon.
I'm goin with '87 - check da head on Roj (pre-Iggy hair farming phase)
That IS Mr Hills....I can hear da mid-Atlantic twang....funny thinkin back to it now Fletch really rocked when Flipper-John was in da house...on Acid I remember a day spent contemplatin how a board rotated mid-flip through hallucegenic eyes Oh how we laughed ; ) Good times.
We should talk to Connor, Fletch and Vic and do a reshoot, 2010 style!
Shag, have you still got those photos from the weekend trip we did to Enniskillen back in the day? I seem to remember some good shots of the mental hospital banks and a bit of early handrail action.
I think I had a "madskull" supermarket stick, was the graphic a vulture eating the eye out of a skull, 1987 era ? Love that Decks photo, reminds me of saturday evenings sitting watching public domain while me Ma made me and me mates sausage, beans and chips ha ha ! 20 odd years ago, tis mad I tells ya !
I walked from the Ormeau Road to that Drumbo mini ramp past the shooting at the bookmakers beside the Hatfield with Derek Sloan- first wall he did nosegrind to lipslide. He was really good. Any pics?
There is bound to be old photos of Derek floating about. He was rad alright. Me and Jay actually bumped him a couple of years ago at Bushy. It was great to see he was still skating after all these years. Dords has video footage of him busting a 50-50 to lipslizza that day.
A few pics form the old project comp back in the kings hall back in '98 (i think). KArl lShipman with a pretty hectic gap over the driveway to noseblunt sliiiide...
Harry Basterd with a Monster Melon over the Driveway (spot Monkeybird in the background with a nice sky blue sunhat)
Colin Kennedy with a tasty kickflip 5 0 followed by a butterry backside tea
Our very own Bernard Rea mixing it up with the best of thel English pro's...kickflip over the hip
Pretty sure that's me on the boneless (somehow I came 3rd in the 'non-ollie' group), Dave's that day took in the whole width of the bowl. Yeah, that's Dave on the grass in the last pic from that link, Jay Donaldson belongs to the board with the 'SOLD' sticker, it was either a Templeton or a Chris Miller, I'm in the background with the knobbly knees and indie-ass hair.
